Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data LifeLedger collects, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
Who we are
LifeLedger is a UK household bill and life-admin management service, operated from the United Kingdom. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights below, contact hello@lifeledger.uk.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and password. Passwords are hashed and we never see them in readable form. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- Information you enter — bills, budgets, notes, home inventory, vehicle details and moving addresses.
- Documents you upload — files you choose to store in the Document Vault.
- Bank data (only if you connect an account) — if you use Bank Connect, our open banking provider supplies account and transaction information so bills can be imported. This is entirely optional and you can disconnect at any time.
- Basic technical data — information your browser sends automatically, such as IP address and browser type, used for security and to keep the service running.
Why we use it
- To provide the service and keep your data available across your devices
- To send reminders you have asked for, such as bill due dates and document expiry alerts
- To calculate potential savings by comparing what you pay against available tariffs
- To keep accounts secure and prevent misuse
- To respond when you contact us
Our lawful basis is performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. Where we rely on consent — for example connecting a bank account — you can withdraw it at any time.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run LifeLedger. They process data on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes:
- Supabase — database, authentication and document storage
- Vercel — application hosting
- Cloudflare — domain and email routing
- TrueLayer — open banking connections, only if you use Bank Connect
- Email delivery providers — for account and reminder emails
Some of these providers operate servers outside the UK. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Affiliate partners
When you follow a Compare & Switch link, you leave LifeLedger and go to that provider's own website. We may receive a referral fee from the provider if you switch. We do not send your bills, documents or personal details to that provider — they only know that a visitor arrived from LifeLedger. See our Affiliate Disclosure for how this works.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share your bill or document data with advertisers. LifeLedger earns money through Premium subscriptions and referral fees paid by providers — never by selling what you store here.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is open. If you delete your account, your data and uploaded documents are deleted. Backups may persist for a short period before being overwritten in the normal course of operation.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Uploaded documents are stored in private per-user storage with access controls enforced at the database level, so one account cannot access another account's files. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
Storage on your device
LifeLedger stores some information in your browser's local storage so the app works quickly and offline. This is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Clearing your browser data will remove it; your account data remains safe on our servers.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Delete your account and data
- Export your data in a portable format — available in Settings at any time
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it
To exercise any of these, email hello@lifeledger.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
LifeLedger is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change materially affects you, tell you in the app or by email.
